PrimeNano is an early stage, privately held analytical instrument company. We have commercialized a patented microwave impedance imaging technology developed at Stanford University. PrimeNano’s ScanWave product, introduced in 2013, enables imaging of electrical properties of materials (conductivity and permittivity) at sub-micron dimensions, using atomic force microscopes (AFMs).

 

As one of the fastest growing instruments companies we have doubled our business in 2016 and 2017. We are on track to do the same in 2018, and are planning to release three new products.

 

The following positions are currently available:

  • Accepting Applications: Senior Director of Engineering

    As part of our rapid growth we are looking for a hands-on Senior Dir. of Engineering with experience in bringing discrete/board level microwave products to market.

     

    Required skills and attributes - You must meet all of these criteria:

    • Design experience of PCB-level, discrete analog microwave/RF electronics and digital interfaces (1-5GHz)
    • Experience in delivery and production of small volume, high ASP products (30-200 units)
    • Leadership experience as Director Engineering, launching multiple (discrete - non IC's) microwave products
    • Imaging systems with nanometer-scale resolution
    • Ability to plan, budget, and execute design, development and manufacturing programs
    • Proven interpersonal and technical management skills

     

    Some additional desired capabilities are:

    • Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) experience
    • Experience with cryogenic systems
    • Experience in manufacturing and supporting commercial instrumentation products
    • Experience managing software development as part of the product development cycle (GUI, Instrument controls, etc.)
    • Familiarity with nearfield optical interactions
    • Understanding of semiconductor devices and doped semiconductor behavior
    • MEMs design and fabrication techniques
    • Knowledge of scanning probe techniques and their applications
    • An advanced degree in engineering or physics

  • Accepting Applications: VP of R&D / System Architecture Instrumentation

    As part of our rapid growth we are looking for a hands-on VP Solutions and Application development with experience in architecting and delivering measurement solutions for our microwave products.

     

    This is a unique opportunity to join a successful startup on the ground floor to become a key contributor. The successful candidate must have at least 5 years experience in the following areas:

     

    • Architecting measurement solutions for sub-micron semiconductor materials like Silicon, GAs, ...
    • Understanding of semiconductor devices and doped semiconductor behavior
    • Experience with underlying material physics of Silicon, GAs, ...
    • Experience in implementing Hard and Software solutions to create products (measurement protocols, automation, software processing)
    • Imaging systems with nanometer-scale resolution
    • Experience with Microwave and underlying Physics
    • Ability to plan, budget, and execute design, development programs
    • Proven interpersonal and technical management skills

    The position reports to the CEO and provides a salary with equity participation.

  • Accepting Applications: Senior R&D or Electrical Technician or Junior R&D Engineer

    To expand our team, we are looking for an Senior R&D or Electrical Technician or Junior R&D Engineer who will be key to our core products. We are also looking for someone with initiative and a can-do attitude. You will receive guidance and support from a number of very talented engineers and scientists, but you will be expected to execute many of your responsibilities with minimal supervision.

     

    THE ROLE

     

    • Supporting the design, testing and fabrication of electrical and precision mechanical systems.
    • Assisting in the development of testing and assembly procedures.
    • Maintaining BOMs and other product documentation.
    • Finding and managing key vendors.

     

    Key responsibilities will include:

     

    • Plan, assemble, troubleshoot / repair / modify prototype devices and fixtures with minimal supervision from engineers.
    • Assemble electronic prototypes, printed circuit board assemblies, electrical wiring and cable assemblies.
    • Assemble electromechanical prototypes and test fixtures including PCBAs, power supplies, pushbuttons, switches, indicators, displays into enclosures.
    • Debug and troubleshoot analog, digital, and computer based circuits and systems.
    • Rework PCBAs, wiring, and breadboards.
    • Create schematics, drawings, parts lists of prototypes and fixtures.
    • Conduct and document electronic and electromechanical tests.
    • Integrate computer components, install software and debug computer systems.

     

    THE CANDIDATE

     

    Required skills and attributes - You should meet all of these criteria:

    1. Well organized, self-starting and comfortable working in a small organization.
    2. Exceptional soldering skills and high quality workmanship—must be able to rework fine-pitch surface mount components.
    3. The ability to write, revise and maintain detailed procedures.
    4. Able to read and understand schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
    5. Basic computer skills.

     

    Desired skills - You should meet a significant number of these criteria:

    1. Experience with GHz circuits, assembly practices and test equipment.
    2. Basic CAD (e.g. Solidworks) and/or basic PCB layout and fabrication.
    3. Simple to moderate circuit design.
    4. Knowledge of electronic circuits and theory: op amps, power supplies, digital logic, microprocessors, PC systems, component selection.
    5. Familiarity with the creation and interpretation of electronic schematics, bills of material, test procedures, PCB design documentation, etc.
    6. Ability to handle multiple projects / meet deadlines.
    7. Ability to troubleshoot equipment.
    8. Proficiency with advanced test equipment and instrumentation (e.g. network analyzer, digital oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.)
    9. Experience with the operation of low temperature (liquid He) or UHV apparatus is a plus.
  • Accepting Applications: Senior Applications Scientist

    To support and expand our sales activities, we are looking for a Senior Applications Scientist who will further expand and develop our North American and European market.

     

    THE ROLE

    • Collecting data on customer samples and writing demo reports.
    • Live demos for potential customers.
    • Assisting in advanced applications development.
    • R&D projects supporting longer term product development.
    • Travel to conferences and technical presentations and/or seminars internationally.

     

    THE CANDIDATE

    Required Skills and Attributes - You should meet all of these criteria:

    1. Be skilled at atomic force microscopy, including selection of imaging modes and cantilevers/probes. Experience with one or more electrical measurement modes for AFM, such as SCM, cAFM, ORCA, SSRM, is desired. In exceptional cases we will consider extraordinary candidates who are not skilled AFM users—be sure to make a clear case for this exception in your cover letter.
    2. Have research experience in a materials related field, e.g.: physics, materials science, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, or electrical engineering.
    3. Have experience supporting or maintaining customer relationships.
    4. Be a strong, hands-on experimentalist with good technical skills.
    5. Well organized, self-starting and comfortable working in a small organization.
    6. Ability to handle multiple projects / meet deadlines.

    4. Advance degree: a PhD is desired, a masters with appropriate experience will be considered.
    5. Proficiency with one or more of the following applications/languages (or similar): imageJ, Matlab, C, igor, LabView, etc.

  • Position Filled:  Office Manager / Bookkeeper / Administrative Assistant

    To expand our team, we are looking for an Office Manager/Bookeeper/Administrative Assistant who will be key to running our operations smoothly.

     

    The Ideal candidate will be able to work well in a fast-paced, energetic environment with a positive attitude and impeccable time-management skills.

     

    • Bookeeping using QuickBooks:
      • Maintaining company financials, including A/R, A/P, bank and credit card reconciliations
      • Creating invoices for products shipped
      • Pay supplier invoices in a timely manner
      • Paying expense reports
      • Issue financial statements
    • Organize Offices:
      • Monitor and Purchase office supplies and equipment as authorized by management
      • Tag and monitor fixed assets
      • Maintain Offices and interact with contractors, etc
      • Interact with the HR services company we contracted
    • Administrative Assistant to CEO
      • Organize meetings, make travel arangements and book flights.
      • Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested

    • Minimum Qualifications: The candidate should have at minimum, an Associate's degree in accounting or business administration (or equivalent business experience) as well as a thorough knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles.   • Position Filled: Director / VP Sales North America and Europe

    To expand our sales coverage, we are looking for an experienced Sales Director/VP who will further expand and develop our North American and European market.

     

    THE ROLE

    • Develop, expand and maintain industrial and scientific direct customer base in the region.
    • Manage and support Reps and distributors regionally, driving sales through those partners.
    • Build, expand and manage the company’s sales pipeline.
    • Meet or exceed sales targets.
    • Accurately forecast prospects through sales cycle. Maintain list of prospects that reflects sales targets.
    • Interpret customer needs & identify tactical actions for the company to close the sales.
    • Understand customer decision making process, and key decision makers & influencers.
    • Coordinate with marketing and applications staff to schedule and organize equipment demos, sample imaging requests, technical workshops and other sales-marketing activities.
    • Travel both domestically and internationally.
    • Ability to build and manage a sales team.

    This is a ground floor opportunity in an exciting, dynamic startup with compensation including significant stock options. It is initially a hands on position for a candidate who can grow with the company.

     

    THE CANDIDATE

    • The successful candidate shall have at least 8 years’ sales experience and meet the following skills and attributes:
    • 5+ years of experience in sales managing a significant region, preferably in the scientific instrument/AFM business.
    • Sales experience in North America and Europe.
    • Strong project management skills, you keep your sales process organized and have the ability to navigate a complex sales process.
    • Highly motivated, smart, achievement oriented and excited to join a growing team.
    • Have completed a bachelor's degree or have demonstrated equivalent experience.
    • Well organized, self-starting and comfortable working in a small organization.
    • Ability to handle multiple projects / meet deadlines.
    • Experience in selling scientific or manufacturing instrumentation into both the academic and industrial high-tech markets.
    • You will have excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Willingness to travel (up to 70%).
    • Must have and be able to maintain valid travel documentation.
  • Position Filled: Industrial Engineering Scientist or Research Engineer

    THE ROLE

    • Developing hardware and software to improve the capabilities of this new technology, with focus on developing a low temperature system using a scanning probe platform.
    • Working with potential users to demonstrate its utility in a wide variety of applications.

     

    The position requires one to routinely do work in at least 2, if not all 3 of the following areas. Therefore, a successful candidate will ideally be an expert in a minimum of one and at least proficient in the others. If you are an expert in one, but have limited experience in the others, in your cover letter be sure to make a case why you will be able to become proficient quickly in the remaining areas.

    1. Scanning probe experiments using advanced techniques such as cAFM, KPFM, EFM, SSRM or SCM. Deep understanding of the theory and practical details of lock-in amplifier based AFM techniques is a plus, particularly as they relate to SNR.
    2. Design and operation of low temperature experimental apparatus, familiarity with one or more low temperature scanning probe platform, familiarity with cryogenic systems and magnets.
    3. Microwave/RF circuit analysis and design, for example matching circuits and resonant circuits. Board layout and HFSS type simulations are not important—rather it is critical to be able to understand and optimize the SNR and sensitivity of a given measurement circuit operating in the 1 to 10 GHz regime.

     

    THE CANDIDATE

    • Required skills and attributes - You should meet all of these criteria:
    • PhD degree in low temperature physics.
    • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Ability to work independently at customer site.
    • Well organized, self-starting and comfortable working in a small organization.
    • Proficiency with one or more of the following applications/languages (or similar): imageJ, Matlab, C, igor, LabView, etc.
    • Proficiency with FEA software, e.g. COMSOL.
    • Experience supporting or maintaining customer relationships.
    • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings/models.
    • Basic CAD (e.g. Solidworks) and/or PCB layout and fabrication is a plus.
    • Ability to troubleshoot equipment.
    • Proficiency with advanced test equipment and instrumentation (e.g. network analyzer, digital oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.)
    • Experience with systems engineering and/or systems architecture of instrumentation, including error or noise budget modeling/analysis. This is not expected, but would be a huge plus.
    • Have and maintain travel documentation for international travel.
